Winter is starting to loosen its grip as we are almost done with January. However, a N'oreaster is on its way to us in 2 days time. It has been colder this last 2 days that at any time this season, making me look for signs of Spring.
Incidentally, having said that, I remember that I have seen robins in flocks this week! Have they been here all winter, or are they super early birds? My main reason for writing today is to share an update about my personal situation. Last April I became mildly ill with COVID_19. A Very mild case. Headache and low-grade fever were the most apparent symptoms. However, even though I only missed 4 days of work, I have not bounced back entirely. I experienced afternoon fatigue, and took naps a couple of times a week upon returning home from work. (I work 24 hours a week.). Then I began noticing dry lips, which no lip balm or salve relieved. Then upon closer examination, I saw the the margins were red, inflamed, and now the skin was peeling daily. This went on, along with digestive upsets, from May until December. Finally, in a an effort to help the digestive issues, I was drinking homemade kombucha, eating dates, and taking HCL tablets for my stomach , believing that the gas and rumblings after eating was from low stomach acid. Then my lips got really bad, painful, stiff from inflammation and dry skin layers. My daughter, who was present when this happened to be at its worst suggested Benadryl cream for my lips. I immediately went to get some, and one application made a difference. So, now I knew there was an allergic reaction going on...but to what? After some research, I learned about histamine intolerance, and the enzyme responsible for its breakdown. This was news to me! Soon I found that it happened to others after having had COVID-19. After about 2 weeks of eating a low-histamine selection of vegetables, grains, fruits with eggs and some grass-fed or organic meats, I am better...so much better! I am currently seeking a knowledgeable practitioner in my area who can help me through the rest of this situation. More on that later....

By this date, the world has been through 5 months of dramatic changes, drastic events, and enough anxiety for many lifetimes. With so many more questions than there are answers, life has become something different from before, but some good things have come out of it as well.
Scientists found that the Earth's measurable resonances calmed because of the huge reduction of motorized travel..cars, trucks, planes and ships and trains stilled. Air became noticeably cleaner. Birds sounds were more noticeable and people began to get away from electronics and experience Nature in new ways. In other ways, humans got back to basics. Bread baking became more important, and home cooking happened a great deal more. Parents spent more time with school age children as they helped with their remote learning. In my own life, I thought more about the reasons for the shortage of organic foods in my stores?? I decided that maybe that was because there are more people than I would have guessed who realized the importance and value of organic food for building a healthy immune system. I also decided that it was the best time to launch 2 businesses..not just Berkana Wellness, but a second one that ties in with my philosophy of clean, healthy food and products for our homes and bodies. To that end, I am pleased to announce that I am now a Beautycounter consultant. The company not only makes safer beauty products that are effective, but they believe that a company can be a "powerful tool for change." BC has a "Never List" of chemicals that they do their utmost to avoid having in their products. Transparency in their ingredient lists means that each and every ingredient is listed, unlike some other companies that lump several different chemicals under "parfum" or "fragrance". Transparency also includes sharing the "differences between BC testing and ingredients screening processes". Their mission statement is clear, and hopeful. I can support the entire idea of getting "safer products into the hands of everyone". The link below will take you to my personal Beautycounter website where you can read the complete mission statement and explore the offerings for women, men and children. Who doesn't need a bit of pampering right now? https://www.beautycounter.com/cynthialynnklein To Your Health, Lynn Just when you think you have done your job - three wonderful adult children, 4 grandchildren, and feeling like maybe it's time to think about retiring...then I decide to start a business. Nothing like creating a business to humble you, drive you crazy (just like your kids did when they were little), and, hopefully, give me something to look back on and say “Yeah! I did this!” It's a fresh opportunity to create something from nothing, to be creative, productive, and put something amazing out into the world...a little piece of me out there. It's scary, confusing, but darn it all...fun, too!
My hope is that I am able to bring a piece of what I have learned throughout my life about holistic self-care, into yours. One small piece of ancient wisdom bottled up and made available to you. I’ve had friends and family tell me how one of my salves have helped them deal with their personal skin issues - things that on the surface, may look like small annoyances, but to them was a hindrance, embarrassment, or prevented them from really feeling whole. Whether something I make brings joy, relief, or a sense of beauty - my dream is that you will come back and share your story with me so that others can benefit and find hope. From my home to yours...Berkana Wellness. To your health, Lynn |
